Tom Anderson - Tom Anderson brings to the studio a wealth of experience and a well-respected body of work as a vocal arranger. Arranging for a vocal groups in both the a cappella and choral
idioms since 1993, Tom graduated cum laude from the University
of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a degree in music composition. While
at UWEC, he played piano on a Grammy-nominated jazz record and
directed the top student-run jazz ensemble. Tom was also the founding
director of the men’s a cappella sextet Fifth Element. In
that post, he received recognition for Best Arrangement during
the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. Tom also
became the first person ever to win multiple Hot Lips Awards for
Best Vocal Percussion, as well as the first-ever repeat winner
of the ICCA’s discretionary award for Best Original Song
– an honor he reprised at the Chicago Harmony Sweeps. Tom
is ineligible for the A Cappella Olympics, however, having relinquished
his amateur status to suit up as a member of pro groups Four Shadow
and Ball in the House. Tom’s BitH days led to friendship and collaboration with
fellow alum Peter Hollens. At Peter’s request, Tom arranged
the powerhouse version of Mr. Mister’s “Kyrie”
that garnered a 2006 CARA nomination for Song of the Year (and
snagged Peter a nod for Best Male Soloist). Tom’s arrangements
were chosen as the leadoff tracks on the most recent albums by
nationally acclaimed Oregon groups On the Rocks and Divisi as
well as the compilation “Sing 2: Eclectic Boogaloo.”
Tom’s work as a choral arranger has also sparked wide interest
as a result of the performance of one of his pieces at the National
Convention of the American Choral Directors Association. Tom’s work reflects a set of influences that span the musical spectrum, from funk to folk, from jazz and neo-soul to metal and straight-up pop. He strives to satisfy his clients and is always on the lookout for the next challenge. |
